Here are their favorite pieces of productivity advice, backed by science:<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>1. Procrastinate<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adam Grant, Organizational Psychologist, Author of <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Give and Take<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Adam Grant, the best way to get something done is to start, and then leave it unfinished. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPsychology research reveals that we have a better memory for incomplete, rather than complete, tasks,\u201d explains Grant. \u201cComplex tasks are often better handled in the back of our minds, and that\u2019s often true of creative tasks.\u201d (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/dorieclark\/2014\/03\/04\/3-unexpected-productivity-strategies-from-wharton-professor-adam-grant\/#26a812052c2c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forbes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) In other words, if you need to <a href=\"\/blog\/creative-thinking-hacks\/\">think up a creative idea<\/a> or craft a response, your brain will do a better job if it\u2019s given time to contemplate. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI\u2019ll start working, put it aside, and sometimes I\u2019ll wake up the next morning with a solution, or I\u2019ll find one when I exercise. Remember why you\u2019re doing it<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Charles Duhigg, author of <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Smarter, Better, Faster<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Power of Habit<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To be more productive, remind yourself of your motivation in the first place, says Charles Duhigg. To do so, connect your to-do to a bigger, more important goal. \u201cOnce we start asking why [we\u2019re doing something], small tasks become a larger constellation of meaningful projects, goals, and v<\/span>alues,\u201d says Duhigg in his book <i>Smarter, Better, Faster<\/i>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSelf-motivation flourishes when we realize that replying to an email or helping a coworker on its own might be relatively unimportant. But it is part of a bigger picture that we believe in.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So how do we build up that motivation? Duhigg explains by example, telling a story of a cancer researcher who hates grading papers. Every time he sits down to grade a paper, he goes to a mantra: \u2018If I grade this student\u2019s paper, the university gets their tuition dollars, so they can pay for my research, so I can find out things about cancer, so I can save people\u2019s lives. Therefore, by grading the students\u2019 papers, I\u2019m saving people\u2019s lives.\u2019 If we look hard enough, there\u2019s undoubtedly a bigger \u2018why\u2019 to everything we do. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>3. Go with your instincts<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Malcolm Gladwell, author of <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blink<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Tipping Point<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and others <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019re in luck: our best decisions are the ones that are made in the blink of an eye, according to Malcolm Gladwell. This concept is called \u2018Thin Slicing,\u2019 and was at the core of his book <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blink. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over multiple studies, Gladwell found that we make better decisions based on small amounts of information. Our judgments don\u2019t improve as we are given more and more info &#8211; in fact, our decisions often become worse! We can save some serious time knowing that our best decisions are often the ones we made quickly, from the thinnest slice of experience. So the next time you think you need to dive into some deep research in order to make the best decision, science says go with your gut instead. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3>4. Put your happiness first<\/h3>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shawn Anchor, Psychologist, author of <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Happiness Advantage<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When it comes to productivity, <a href=\"\/blog\/hacking-happiness\/\">happiness<\/a> pays off, big time. Research shows that if you\u2019re more positive, your brain will have a \u201chappiness advantage.\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That means it\u2019ll perform significantly better than it would at a negative, neutral, or stressed state. This happens because dopamine doesn\u2019t only make you happy, but it also turns on all of the learning centers in your brain. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe\u2019ve found that every single business outcome improves\u201d with the happiness advantage, according to Anchor. \u201cYour brain at positive is 31% more productive. You\u2019re 37% better at sales. Create a 15-minute list<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carson Tate, Psychologist, founder of <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Working Simply \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We all have those small, pesky tasks that stay on our to-do list forever, ones that we never think we\u2019ll actually get done. Productivity expert Carson Tate has the cure: create a list of tasks you can get done in 15 minutes. Have it with you at all times, so you can whip it out during the micro-segments of your day. That way, you can turn those odd moments of time, like standing in line at the supermarket or sitting in the doctor\u2019s office, into productive micro-segments of work. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis list is also your go-to when you feel the tug of procrastination. You can quickly complete a task, which gives you a little energy boost, helping you transition into working on a more challenging or complex project.\u201d (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/productivity-tips-from-experts-busy-people-2016-12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Business Insider<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When we\u2019re putting off a big to-do, sometimes all we need is a quick boost of energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>6. To combat this, renowned behavioral economist and Lemonade\u2019s <a href=\"\/blog\/oh-behave\/\">Chief Behavioral Officer<\/a> Dan Ariely suggests choosing a ritual you love and pairing it with a productivity-related activity. He even does this himself: <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI connect something I love, which is my coffee ritual, to something that I love in principle, but not every moment of it, which is writing. It\u2019s a conditioned response, where I start working and I\u2019m enjoying the coffee and the writing at the same time.\u201d (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/productivity-tips-from-experts-busy-people-2016-12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Business Insider<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To really make this work, you have to pay close attention to your ritual, instead of doing it mindlessly. That way, your brain will associate this enjoyable ritual with the task, making it much easier to get it done. \u201cI listen to the machine as it grinds the beans, I look at how the coffee is being dripped, I take it, I smell it, and I think about it. And I take this very special cup of coffee and take it to my desk,\u201d Ariely describes. So whether you love cappuccinos, Drake songs, or ice cream, make sure to pair it with your next big to-do! <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>7. Notice your energy levels<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ron Friedman, Psychologist, author of <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Best Place to Work \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Realistically, we can\u2019t be equally productive at every hour of the day. At some points of the day, we feel more energized, and at others, all we want to do is lay in bed and watch Netflix. And realistically, what good are productivity tips if you don&#8217;t have enough energy to act on them? Times like these are not the best moments to get stuff done. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s not what you do, so much as when you do it,\u201d explains Ron Friedman. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cResearch shows that our cognitive functioning fluctuates throughout the day. On average, people are considerably worse at absorbing new information, planning ahead, and restricting distractions as the day progresses.\u201d (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2014\/06\/when-to-schedule-your-most-important-work\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HBR<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The better you are at matching tasks to your energy level, the more you can get done with less effort.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dan Ariely also points out that the majority of people are at their most productive <\/span><a href=\"\/blog\/how-to-be-more-productive-at-work\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">between 9 and 11 am<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
