{"id":905,"date":"2017-07-05T08:35:38","date_gmt":"2017-07-05T08:35:38","guid":{"rendered":"\/blog\/?p=905"},"modified":"2023-01-29T11:39:34","modified_gmt":"2023-01-29T11:39:34","slug":"giveback-2017-new-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lemonade.com\/blog\/giveback-2017-new-story\/","title":{"rendered":"Building a Safe Home for the Quite\u0301n\u0303o Family with New Story"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Lemonade&#8217;s Giveback to New Story<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Story builds safe homes for the homeless, and aims to transform slums into thriving communities in the developing world<\/span><b>. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They help people like Ernesto &amp; Vilma Elizabeth Alfaro Quite\u0301n\u0303o, who lived with their two children in one room in the back of a family member\u2019s house in El Salvador. Their single room served as a bedroom, living room <em>and<\/em> kitchen for four people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thanks to Lemonade members, no longer. Through the Giveback to New Story, the Lemonade&nbsp;community built a new home for the Quite\u0301n\u0303o family, from start to finish. Now, the Quite\u0301n\u0303o family will have a safe home to return to every day, giving them a stable foundation to improve their health, education, and income.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Lemonade Giveback 2017: A New Home For The Quite\u0301n\u0303o Family\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oPHjgvlD0No?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>The 2017 Lemonade Giveback<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our total Giveback for 2017 was $53,174, and this number calls for some context: this amounts to 10.2% of our revenue. As a point of reference, the Fortune 100 give 0.08% of their revenues each year (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/cecp.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/GIN2016_Finalweb.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CECP<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> p.36). So if year-one is anything to go by, Giveback has the potential to 100X that benchmark. Time will tell, but early indications are encouraging. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We had 21 cause-centric-groups as of June 30, and 14 (66.7%) received a Giveback. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s a fun fact: among these 14 causes, an average of 18% of premiums were given to charity.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> These funds can go a long way when put in the right hands. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But it\u2019s more than just numbers. Giveback amounts to a change in kind, because it isn\u2019t dependent on profits (Lemonade hasn\u2019t turned a profit yet). We think of Giveback as a social contract among our community, where the size and allocation is determined not by our big profits or big hearts, but by the good fortune and good behavior of our members.
