FAVORITE THING ABOUT LEMONADE
You’re taking something ordinary and thinking about it differently
What comes to mind when you hear ‘insurance’?
I think, ‘Oh no!’ It’s the thing you think about when your world shrinks or an accident happens. It’s a really rational, unemotional thing in your life.
What about ‘Lemonade’?
A company that’s making something unemotional into something really interesting and useful and thinking about it differently. And Lemonade is one of the few players in the startup space who’s doing that really well.
Why’d you get insurance in the first place?
I’m nomadic – I rent my apartment out, and I don’t want to have to worry about anything. It’s one less shackle, so I can focus on all the different passions I have.
How did you hear about Lemonade?
I either saw it on Hacker News or Product Hunt. I’m always on the lookout for anything that’s taking something ordinary and primed for disruption. And I knew I needed renters insurance coverage.
Did you have renters insurance before Lemonade?
Why’d you go with Lemonade?
Finding insurance otherwise is a pain. It’s like going to the dentist. It’s this thing I need to do, but I don’t want to think about. What I love about Lemonade is that it was super easy to get onto it, the insurance policy was very transparent, and I know exactly what’s covered. And after I got my policy, it just fell in the background.
So do you ever talk to your friends about Lemonade?
Very little. The only times I ever have is when I travel. Traveling is a big part of my life. Having renters insurance is fantastic for scenarios like that.
Anything else you’d like to add?
I saw that you guys took a stand on guns a while back, and I loved it. I loved that your CEO took a stance, and he wasn’t ashamed of professing those values or making it a part of your product. People say all the time that startups are a function of their founders, but many don’t follow through on that. So to actually see that is refreshing. And in addition to price, and coverage, and all the technical details, knowing that Lemonade shares my values is enormous to me. You can’t put a price on that.
