FAVORITE THING ABOUT LEMONADE

The price - when I first saw it, I thought it was too good to be true

What comes to mind when you hear ‘insurance’?

Expensive. You pray that you don’t have to make a claim because it’s going to be a nightmare. You expect that you’re not going to get exactly what you asked for once you file that claim. You’re working with these huge companies that you associate such bad things with.

Why do you associate such bad things with them?

Not to say insurance is a bad thing, but it’s required. It’s a necessary evil.

What comes to mind when you hear ‘Lemonade’?

Lemonade is incredible. I feel like they’re not an insurance company, they’re like a friend who’s there to just settle my mind, and they’re also investing my unused dollars in causes through Giveback. And they’re so cheap.

Why did you decide to get renters insurance in the first place?

One summer during college, I had an apartment fire. I wasn’t there, but I got a text from my roommate saying, ‘There’s a fire in the apartment, I had to round up everyone and call 911.’ But I still don’t think anything bad could actually happen to me. It’s not going to be real.

So what happened?

My room was the one that got scorched. Everything was gone. All my clothes, gone. My bed, TV, knick knacks, gone. It was a very sobering moment for me – Both as a person who just lost my stuff and also realizing I’m not invincible. After that, I had told myself I would always have renters insurance coverage.

So how’d you hear about Lemonade?

An online ad. The first thing I saw was $5 a month, and I thought it was too good to be true. I went through the website, read the claims reviews, went through the Lemonade claims process, and it was all legit. I was like, ‘I could be paying 9 bucks a month and I’m paying 30? And it’s on an app and not a grey dark hole of a big, unfriendly company?’ It was a no brainer.

How was your experience getting Lemonade?

I know you guys advertise ‘get a policy in 90 seconds,’ and it may have taken that or less. It was just so quick. And now, you guys are only there if and when I need you. You’re not bugging me with, ‘Are you going to buy a car soon? Bundle today!’ Also, the fact that you guys canceled my other renters insurance policy for me is huge.

Have you ever talked to your friends about Lemonade?

Yeah, my roommate got it. I tell everyone about it.

Anything else you’d like to add?

You guys brought the price down for insurance so much in such a crazy way, for the same coverage,  AND that you’re doing incredible things like Giveback was just so nice to experience. The claims process, which knock on wood I won’t have to use, is so straightforward your features are so transparent. You seem like a really great company. It makes me so happy that you’re here.
