You can also get a discount for paying your full annual premium upfront, installing protective devices like smoke alarms, deadbolts, or a burglar alarm, or choosing a higher deductible.

Standard homeowners insurance policies don't cover everything. Floods, earthquakes, and sinkholes are excluded, and so is damage from neglected maintenance, mold, normal wear and tear, or pest infestations.
